ON HBO, Million Dollar Baby has been playing for weeks. It doesn't matter what time it is, nor, how far along the movie is, once I recognize it, I'm apt to keep it there until its ending ...there's something completely magnetic about this movie, the story is compelling & riveting (thus, my inability to pass it by) and the characters become like my long lost relatives, with enough ache and compassion, that I can't look away and ignore the deep shadowed luminosity of all the battles that are being fought, both within and without to reveal the mystery of what it means to...
Well, you can figure that one out when you see the movie!
Anyway, if you haven't seen it, please do.
Here are a few quotes...
Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: There is magic in fighting battles beyond endurance
Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: Frankie likes to say that boxing is an unnatural act, that everything in boxing is backwards: sometimes the best way to deliver a punch is to step back... But step back too far and you ain't fighting at all.
Maggie Fitzgerald: You got any family, boss?
Frankie Dunn: What?
Maggie Fitzgerald: You're spending so much time with me. I didn't know if you had any.
Frankie Dunn: Well, I've got a daughter, Katie.
Maggie Fitzgerald: Well that's family.
Frankie Dunn: We're not exactly close.
Maggie Fitzgerald: How much she weigh?
Frankie Dunn: What?
Maggie Fitzgerald: Trouble in my family comes by the pound.
